The San Antonio Ivy Educational Fund, Inc. (SAIEF) is the non-profit 501c3 entity of the Alpha Tau Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Our activities include the following:
Arts
To promote artistic programming that will help the community of different ethnic backgrounds appreciate their differences and similarities.
Senior Services
To support and enhance the physical, social, emotional, and economic well-being of senior citizens. To evaluate and study the needs of seniors, identify opportunities and mobilize resources within the community to assist in satisfying the needs of senior citizens. To provide assistance to volunteer organizations who assist in planning and promoting programs, projects and services which will further the agencies general purpose for assistance to senior citizens.
Social Justice and Human Rights
To assist in promoting programs and organizations with a focus on the Social Justice and Human Rights. Activities, programs, and projects will be designed to enable, support, and provide access to community resources that will strengthen the Black family, with an emphasis on domestic violence, services for children with incarcerated parents, youth aging out of foster care, and children in homeless shelters. To empower voters, to enhance access to technology, to train parents as advocates for the educational and health care needs of children, and support of the arts.
Youth Leadership
To promote programs designed to help impact the lives of at risk youth through innovative programs with a focus on: leadership skills development, civic engagement, enhanced academic preparation and character building; thus providing a sound foundation to achieve personal success.
Youth Enrichment
To promote mentoring programs for high school aged African-American girls focusing on career orientation, academic success, character building, cultural arts, CIVIC responsibility, college preparation, critical thinking, self-esteem and leadership development.
To promote and participate in programs and events whose goals are to end hunger, preserve the environment and empower women. This program will provide food production skills and training in self-reliance through gifts of seeds, livestock and training in environmentally sound agriculture. Education in sustainable food practices will make women equal partners in ending poverty and hunger. We will engage with global partners for self-help projects and awareness campaigns in the San Antonio area and abroad.
Health
To promote activities, programs and projects that are designed to address the many health issues and crises that face in the Black community in the San Antonio area, the United States and globally. Our goal is to focus on providing information about complimentary local health advocacy resources while administering free blood pressure checks and diabetes screenings to the citizens of the community and citizens that are at risk. Create partnership with other organizations in the community with the same focus such as Methodist Healthcare Ministries, American Heart Association, American Kidney Foundation, the American Cancer Society and other such charitable entities.
Educational Enrichment
To promote an educational activity during Black history month in the form of an African-American history competition for youth from 3rd to 8th grade to learn about the historical experiences and contributions made by African-Americans. The purpose of this competition is strengthens team building skills and promotes a positive attitude toward racial identity.
Reading Programs
The purpose of this program is to utilize reading and a means to educate children on what it means to live a healthier, more natural and environmentally safe lifestyle through reading. Children will be inspired to think green by thinking about the world, their relationship to it, and their ability to influence Reading tutorial sessions will be provided to at risk youth in the community and activities will be planned that will enhance the reading skills of inner city youth.
Scholarships
The implementation of a scholarship program, including establishing the criteria of scholarship applicants, selection of scholarship recipients, monitoring the recipients’ continued eligibility for participation in the program and mentoring recipients.
